Andy Mineo Opens up about Anxiety and Depression in New EP ‘The Arrow’

In recent months Andy Mineo has addressed the depression and anxiety that’s weighed on him, and with the debut of  The Arrow, listeners can hear the soundtrack to how those emotions have impacted his life, faith and relationships.

The Arrow is Mineo’s brand new EP and the first of what many anticipate being two EP’s released this year.  The six track project deals with many weighty subjects such as depression, familial issues and there’s even a song titled “Anxiety.”  This EP is much different and darker than Andy’s last album Magic & Bird , the collaboration with fellow Miner League artist Wordsplayed.  Andy’s even stated in the past that he made that project in order to step away from all of the deep and dark content he had brewing; The Arrow is just that.

Rap has evolved into a art form where it is okay to be expressive and show emotions. Many artists are now being open about dealing with depression and anxiety.

Now I know why Chappelle went missing, now I know why Brit got the clippers, now I know why Ye started tripping, the pressure and the expectation get ya, Andy raps on “I Ain’t Done.”

Unlike many other artists though, Andy is hopeful and ends the EP on an encouraging note with “…Lost.”

When I get above those clouds, I know that the sun’s out, I’ma be alright, beautifully sings what sounds like a choir.

The Arrow will hopefully start much needed conversations on mental health and what true joy looks like. Many fans and spectators expect their favorite artists to take up permanent residency on cloud nine because they seemingly “have it all,” but the reality is that they deal with fear, doubt and brokenness like many of us, all the while juggling the pressure of a career in the spotlight.  He goes into even greater depth of  his struggle in the documentary “I: The Arrow; or, Doubt and The Search for Clarity” below.

Though Andy is mostly known for fun and upbeat records, he’s provided something that is necessary for all who can relate with the The Arrow.

The Arrow is available on all digital outlets.
