Artist Anthony Evans returned to the studio to release new music through an overall upbeat and driving worship album in Back to Life. This album follows his run a few years ago on the hit singing competition show “The Voice” on NBC. With six albums already in his discography, Evans faced a fork in the road musically to pursue more worship music or go sing more “life situational” music complementary of the songs he sang on the season 2 of the show.

This LP is a step forward in his personal journey to be an authentic, vulnerable and honest voice on fire for God through his art. There are so many solid contemporary tracks on this album regarding a personal relationship with God that most can relate to. The title track “Back to Life” reflects Evans’ pursuit of the Lord instead of striving for what could not satisfy the soul outside of God.

“Believe” is an energetic declaration of faith in the Lord’s promises and plans for His children. This and several other songs like “God of Breakthroughs” stir the listener to sing/talk to the Father. I think this is important because not everyone is accustomed to traditional Christian or Gospel music. We are talking to and praising God, our strength, redeemer, protector and Father, and these tracks can reach the seasoned Gospel fan as well as those more familiar to the top 40/pop music genre.

The Back to Life album is easy to listen to throughout the day and it speaks to the many seasons that believers go through in this life. They range from gratefulness for the current season in the up-tempo “Everything Changes” to expecting the miracles of God in the triumphant leading single “See You Again”:

Anthony Evans is no stranger to covers. I first discovered his music years ago when I heard a beautiful rendition he sang of “Here I Am to Worship.” This album has a contemporary cover of “Ever Be,” and co-writes plenty of new content with big talent in the music industry to bring a diverse and modern sound to worship. He even updated a 2004 song he co-wrote, “Incredible”, with Gospel great Kirk Franklin and the 2017 revamp definitely brings to memory the days with God’s Property.

“There’s been life breathed back into my career because [God] was giving me truth and lessons in unexpected places,” shared Evans on producing the worship album in Hollywood, California.

The final track “Because of Your Prayers” is a heartfelt ode to his grandmother that many of us could relate to: the thankfulness of the steadfast prayers of faith of the generations before us. The song ends the album on an old time Gospel note with warmth.

Back to Life is definitely worth adding to your daily queue of music. Evans is also brother to author and minister Priscilla Shirer (War Room), who he’s currently touring the country with on the FerVent Tour now throughout the spring. They will both be in Chicago on May 27th for a night of worship and inspiration.
