gOD-Talk: A Black Millennials Faith & Conversation Series Continues Tour

The all new “gOD-Talk Faith & Conversation Series” recently made it’s stop in Chicago this weekend. The traveling series is a groundbreaking seven-city conversation spearheaded by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture Center for the Study of African American Religious Life in association with Pew Research Center.

Millennials are finding and creating new spaces to have different kinds of conversations that are not offered in traditional religious contexts. This interactive conversation series featuring leading millennials voices—activists, entertainers, entrepreneurs, athletes, academicians, religious leaders, politicians, etc.—seeks to amplify these voices by creating a space for their experiences to be shared and documented. These curated conversations seek to not only give voice to this often misunderstood demographic but also to create an opportunity for religious organizations and leaders, researchers, and engaged citizens to understand better the dynamic ways Black millennials engage with religion.

Facilitated by Teddy Reeves, the Chicago leg of this tour highlighted preachers, entertainers and more from various faith walks who agreed to come together to learn and share more about how Black Millennials are relating to faith. The featured panelists included Singer/Songwriter Sir The Baptist, Rev. Demetrius Davis, Pastor Julian Deshazier, Daniel X (Nation of Islam Student Minister), Historian & Theologian Kamasi Hill, Masik Yosef (National Ambassador of Hebrew Israelites) and a host of others which are listed on the flyer below this article.

The diversity of this panel and the bold transparency of the topics covered makes this series groundbreaking! This same presentation is an example of what can be seen on many of the additional tour stops in other cities. The final culmination of this seven-city tour will be made into a documentary that you don’t want to miss.
