Kanye Announces Release Date For Coming Film

Both Fandango and AMC have listed the Jesus is King film on their sites, claiming West will release his movie on the expected date of Oct. 25th:

“IMAX is releasing the all new Kanye West film, JESUS IS KING, exclusively in IMAX theatres. Filmed in the summer of 2019, JESUS IS KING brings Kanye West’s famed Sunday Service to life in the Roden Crater, visionary artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert. This one-of-a-kind experience features songs arranged by West in the gospel tradition along with new music from his forthcoming album JESUS IS KING — all presented in the immersive sound and stunning clarity of The IMAX Experience.”

Although tickets are not for sale yet, you can sign up for alerts on Fandango. There’s also no official word yet on where the film will play. Selected guests have already viewed a screening of the film. What can we expect to see? Forbes writer Travis Bean shared more details about the film:

“It has been noted that the film feels largely inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Directed by Nick Knight, the film feels more like a cinematic expression of West’s reconnection with God than a story that would present that journey an A-B-C structure. The images certainly tell a story about West’s life and spiritual reawakening—but in a very untraditional way.”

 

Kanye’s album release is also still up in the air. It was scheduled to release on September 27th, but seems to still be on hold. Universal Music Group claimed West’s album would come out in November—two months after a tweet from West’s wife Kim Kardashian West claimed it would be released. If this is true, it would mean that everything is actually right on time so far. However, fans have created the idea that the album will release once the album hits theaters. It’s not a surprise that this level of mystery is surrounding Kanye’s coming releases. Whether it’s all apart of the plan or otherwise, time will tell. Either way, fans are waiting with high anticipation!
