LeCrae Addresses Critics, Talks About New Music, Signing Aha Gazelle & More!
ArtSoul Radio host and partner DJ Wadeo recently sat down with LeCrae to discuss his response to critics, his new album and signing Aha Gazelle as the newest artist to Reach Records. Lecrae also explains his position in Christian hip hop and shares what he believes the future of Christian hip hop will look like.
“I believe some people make music for the church, and some people make music from the church to the world… For me, I don’t want to exclusively for the church…if that’s you, then do it, and do it to the best of your ability,” he said.
LeCrae released his first album twelve years ago in 2004. Fast forwarding to May of 2016, he signed to Columbia Records in a joint deal between his own label (Reach Records) and Columbia Records. A lot has changed in twelve years, including LeCrae himself. Over time, many of LeCrae’s fans have felt thrown for a loop as his approach to his career and music seemed to take a turn in different directions. In this interview, DJ Wadeo walks through Lecrae’s progression and growth as an artist and a person while Lecrae shares the back stories of what was happening in his life during each of those time periods.
He also shares why he chose to sign controversial artist Aha Gazelle to his label along with the intricacies of navigating through the music industry in both secular and Gospel arenas. He also explains the importance of being spiritually prepared, along with his frustrations about the limitations CHH has placed on itself as a genre and the role he played in it early on.
