Rapper Steven Malcolm has plans to release four EPs throughout each quarter of 2018, he’s already starting things off on a high note with The Second City (Part 1).

Affectionately named after the hometown nickname of his father, Montego Bay, Jamaica, this project brings four “vibey” tracks as Malcolm calls them. At the top of the EP Malcolm gives insight to his life before music in “Watch” and by the end it’s all about turnin’ up in “Fadeaway” featuring Zauntee. As a whole, the project has a consistent high energy sonically with an underlying message of redemption through Christ.

The Michigan native has a purpose for the quarterly rollout of projects. Asking himself, “How can I effectively build momentum going into my second album being a new artist?” Welcoming the challenge of creating a series of dynamic projects each time, continuously raising the bar, Malcolm chose on this route. Like a movie, he thinks of it as a sequel.

Though his self-titled, first album only released a year ago, Malcolm has already seen the impact of his work. He notices the little things like being quoted on social media by fans, hearing his music in sports highlight videos and the excitement when he posts his tour schedule.

In one year, he’s gone from hearing people say, ‘This is my first time hearing about you, you’re dope!’ to ‘You’re coming to my city, I can’t wait to be there.’

With three more releases in the making this year, Steven Malcolm intends to —as he confidently says, “ keep it rollin’ and keep it lit!”
