“Won’t He Do It:”Koryn Hawthorne Makes Billboard History

If charting on Billboard for new artist is a sign of having arrived, then surely topping those charts screams, “Here to stay!” This is what the current success of Koryn Hawthorne, sweetheart on season 8 of NBC’s The Voice, is stating with her 2017 single, “Won’t He Do It,” which as of October of this year has enjoyed a 30-week reign on top of Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart!

To put this into perspective, not only is “Won’t He” the longest, chart-topping song for a woman, but tied with both Hezekiah Walker with “Every Praise” (2013-2014) and JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise with “You Deserve It” (2017) for the forth-longest chart-topping Gospel song in the chart’s history.  Hawthorne took sole-possession of the crown for a female artist by breaking the tie with Tamela Mann’s wildly popular “Take Me to the King” (2012-2013). This achievement not only places the Louisiana native in the company of Gospel music’s upper echelon, but also positions her for sustained success as she becomes recognized beyond the popular singing competition that first introduced her passionate vocals to a national audience.

“Won’t He Do It,” the lead offering from Hawthorne’s 2018 debut album, Unstoppable, was initially featured on OWN Network’s season 2 soundtrack of its popular musical show, “Greenleaf.” A remix of the catchy song is also featured on WOW Gospel 2018, an annual compilation of the most current and popular songs in the genre for that year.
